TEFLkollab is a joint teaching-research initiative carried out by Leo Will (Justus-Liebig University Giessen) and Caro Blume (TU Dortmund), but the real focus is on pre-service teachers and English language learners at local schools. Within the framework of TEFLkollab, university students „mentor“ secondary pupils via synchronous video conferences and asynchronous videos exchanged on a protected platform. Designed as a sheltered practice teaching environment, TEFLkollab has the added benefit of fostering monologic and dialogic speaking opportunities in a formal language learning setting, but beyond the confines of the classroom.
